Chapter Fifteen

Kip

“Kip,” Stryder mumbled, his hands settling on my waist, pulling me closer to straddle him. I could feel his hardness pressing into my thigh, and it made my own need burn through me. God, I wanted this man. He stared up at me, softly clearing his throat. “You know,” he started, pressing his lips into a firm line. “I was under the assumption that I was supposed to have sex with you first, before you agreed to marry me.”

I jerked back, laughter spilling out of me as I eyed him; his lips twisted up in the cockiest smile, unable to keep it under wraps anymore. “Damnit, you’re right. You tricked me!”

“I admit it, I took advantage of your emotional state.”

I raised my eyebrow, scowling. “My emotional state?”

His smile grew bigger. “Yes,” he leaned in, pulling my lips between his teeth, “your emotional state.” His fingers raked my side, settling on my hips and his gaze grew heated. “Would you like me to try it again?”

I nodded, leaning in to kiss him. “Yes.”

“Kip. You are the love of my life. The woman I always ached for, deep in the private space of my heart that I never showed anyone because I was afraid I would never find you.” His lips skirted over mine, searing me with his kiss. “The woman I always want at my side, in battle, at court, and in my bed. The woman who’s captured my heart and soul. Will you marry me?”

My breath caught, my heart swelling with his words, and it pained me to deny him. “No.”

He pulled away from our kiss. “Not even after I show you all my sexy moves?”

“I don’t think so.” I gave him a snarky grin. “I might be too emotional to make that kind of decision right now.”

Laughing, he gripped my hips, pulling me off my feet and out of the water. I wrapped my legs around him, staring into his eyes. “Where we going, buddy?”

“We’re going to the shore, buddy.”

“And why’s that?”

His eyes darkened with need. “So I can convince you to marry me.”

I gulped in a breath, feeling as if the world was trembling under me. But it wasn’t the ground under our feet; it was my heart shaking apart all the pieces of my soul, breaking open to let him enter. It was as if my whole world was opening up for him, ready for him to claim me. I could feel it in every beat of my heart, every touch on my skin, every breath of air in my lungs.

It scared me and excited me all at once.

“Oh,” I finally answered as his lips pressed to mine, all humor draining away, replaced by a wave of warmth that washed over me as the urgency of our kiss grew. His strong arms surrounded me, holding me tight against him. His chest was firm, his muscles pressing into the softness of my breasts as we walked towards the shore.

His torso expanded, pushing against mine, as if he was breathing everything in, breathing me in.
